The album is called Tana Talk 3. Tana is short for Montana Avenue — the block in Buffalo where Jeremie Pennick grew up. The cover is a painting of his older brother MachineGun Black as a baby. His brother is dead. The album is named after the street they came from. The cover is his brother before any of it happened.
That’s where Benny the Butcher starts. Not with a concept, not with a rollout, not with a brand strategy. With a block and a dead brother and bars that don’t flinch from either.
Tana Talk 3 dropped in 2018 and most people outside of Buffalo and the underground weren’t paying attention. The people who were paying attention couldn’t stop talking about it. Produced by The Alchemist and Daringer — the in-house Griselda producer who has been quietly building one of the most consistent sonic identities in recent rap history — the album sounded like nothing that was charting at the time and everything that mattered about New York rap before it started chasing trends. That specific combination of dusty loops, cinematic detail, and bars that assumed you were keeping up was either exactly what you needed or completely invisible to you. No middle ground.
Here’s what Benny said recently about Griselda that most coverage missed: “We never was a group, that’s why we called it Griselda.” A movement, not a group. The distinction matters because it explains why Griselda has lasted while every other collective that blew up in the same window has either dissolved or calcified. Westside Gunn builds the world. Conway the Machine is the relentless engine. Benny is the standard-bearer — the one who, by his own account, is always ready when the others need time. “Benny is a call away,” he said. Not a complaint. Just a fact about who he is.
Burden of Proof with The Alchemist in 2020 is the album that should have ended debates. It didn’t, because Benny the Butcher doesn’t generate the kind of discourse that ends debates. He generates the kind of music that serious listeners keep returning to quietly, the way you return to an album that was right about something before you understood what it was right about.

Now directing his own full-length film, which he announced in April 2026 with the same matter-of-fact energy he brings to everything else.
The Griselda reunion album is coming. Benny confirmed it. Conway and Westside are family-oriented and need time but Benny is clear: “I put everything on pause to do it. When them boys ready, we make it happen.” The patience is the whole thing. The man who came up hustling, who lost his brother, who built his name from Montana Avenue outward without a major label infrastructure — that man understands patience at a level that most rappers who’ve never had to wait for anything don’t.
Benny the Butcher doesn’t need your approval because he was never waiting for it. He was waiting for the music to be right.
